Island New Democrats Leaving No One Behind: Michelle Neill

Michelle Neill, Leader of the Island New Democrats, with Lifetime Membership Recipients, Martin Kenny, Marie Burge and President Herb Dickieson
(April 29, 2024 Charlottetown) :Island New Democrats met for their Annual Convention at the Beaconsfield Carriage House on Saturday afternoon, April 27, to hear Party updates, adopt resolutions, elect executive officers, present awards to well-deserving members, and hear from guest speaker, Matthew Green, MP for Hamilton Centre, as well as Michelle Neill, Leader of the Island New Democrats.
Leader, Michelle Neill, conveyed, “I’m excited with the progress that New Democrats are making both on the provincial and federal levels. Our resolutions will help to protect non-profit community groups from lawsuit intimidation, secure livable wages for working Islanders, enhance conditions in long-term care facilities for both residents and caregivers, and pressure the government to ensure affordable and accessible housing for Islanders, including those with disabilities. We are committed to leaving no one behind,” assures Mrs. Neill.
“Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and generosity of supporters, we have paid off all debt from the general election of 2023, and the by-election of February 5, 2024, and are now building financial and popular support to gain New Democrat voices in the Legislature for the benefit of Islanders at the next electoral opportunity”, declared the pleased Party Leader.
Michelle Neill received over 90% approval at the AGM’s mandatory Leadership review.
Hamilton Centre MP, Matthew Green, who met with community groups and representatives of health care workers at a Pharmacare Round Table, praised the energetic advocacy work that is being carried out right here on the Island for health care access with improved working conditions for caregivers, inclusiveness and dignity for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, promotion of basic income guarantee, and the offer of support to Island Palestinians in their struggle for peace and basic necessities in Gaza. He was particularly impressed with the engagement of youth in these issues, offering hope and optimism for the future.
At the Convention, Mr. Green appealed to Island New Democrats by saying, “we must relate to and work with Islanders and progressives, organize, and take action to help them, as we have done to bring Pharmacare to Islanders and Canadians, starting with free contraception and diabetic medications and equipment, and continue with programs to make life more affordable and comfortable for all.”
