President Braithwaite enthusiastically said, “I’m honoured to represent the New Democrats of Prince Edward Island, and look forward to building on the talent, experience, and commitment demonstrated at our Annual Convention. The chance to head up a political party where the social values of care and justice are foreground is such an exciting opportunity, and I welcome others to join me, and all of us, in this project.”
New Democrats debated and approved several resolutions at the meeting, including public ownership of Island electric power and distribution, the importance of more inclusive language around gender identity and expression, support for Island shell fishers and their industry, and support for rural New Democrat candidates through the Dana Dickieson Fund. As well, a call for support for Charlottetown Water and Sewer workers was made by CUPE President Ashley Clark.
To join President Braithwaite on the Party Executive Lori MacKay, Convention Chair, was elected as 2nd Vice President, Michelle Neill assumed the role of Treasure, Ashley Clark was elected Chair of the Women’s Committee, and Carl Pursey will continue as the Labour Representative.
