AND OTHER IMPORTANT UPDATES!
November 2, 2026
Hi all, hope everyone is doing great!
And another email from me, full of updates about the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) – with some important deadlines!
As we approach the date of the AGM—December 5, 2026, at the Charlottetown Library Learning Center, 100 – 97 Queen Street in Charlottetown—there are a number of items to be addressed before that meeting. More details about times etc will come next week.
But first: what we need from you!
1) If you know the names of any NDP member who have passed away this year, since our last AGM in October 2025, could you please forward them to info@ndppei.ca? We want to start by recognizing their lives and work, and while we know some of the people, there are no doubt others we are missing. Please send us names by Saturday, November 28 – thanks!
2) As per our constitution, there are three positions on the Executive Council up for election this year: First Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Membership Secretary. These are two-year positions. The positions of President, Second Vice President, and Treasurer were all elected at last year’s AGM and thus continue this year. Brief descriptions of the open positions are at the bottom of this email, but I’m happy to answer questions also. You can forward your name to the info@ndppei.ca email before the convention, or we’ll also call for nominations from the floor at the AGM. Self-nominations are great, and if you want to nominate someone else, please ensure that you have their okay for doing so!
3) The NDP PEI has a number of awards that are given out at the AGM too. These include honourary lifetime memberships, the Edith Perry Volunteer Award, the Environmental Advocacy Award, and the Leo Cheverie Labour and Advocacy Award. If you would like to nominate anyone for these important recognitions, please forward their names (along with a brief bio and rationale for their nomination) to the same email as above, by Friday, November 27—in order to give the adjudication committees enough time to make their decisions. Help us recognize the amazing work so many folks do and get us their names!
4) The AGM is also where the membership gets to propose, hear, debate, and decide upon resolutions and constitutional amendments that affect the direction of the party. If you have any that you would like to propose, please get us a draft of those resolutions or amendments by Saturday, November 7, at the latest (in order to meet the one month before the AGM deadline). I say “draft” because we’ll also put them into a recognized format in order to then send them out to the membership.
We’ve got lots of exciting plans for the AGM too! We’re working on lining up some speakers and planning an NDP “strategic planning” type session—to talk more about directions and goals for the party in the near, medium, and long term! We’re also going to have remote access to the AGM, for those who can’t make it in person for any reason—more info about that also coming next week.
So, please get us all your names and nominations and proposals for resolutions and amendments! And pencil in the AGM date on your calendars!
