New Democrats to choose candidate for Alberton-Bloomfield

Another NDP nomination is in the works, and it looks like there will be an excellent candidate.  People of District 26 will gather on Thursday evening January 10th at the Elmsdale Community Centre to choose the New Democratic candidate for the provincial riding.  Registration will begin at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7:00.  Party Leader Joe Byrne will be the guest speaker.

The party is pleased that a very capable person has already declared her intention to seek the nomination.  She is Michelle Arsenault, a life-long resident of West Prince.  She is a Mental Health Outreach worker based in Alberton, serving all of West Prince.  Michelle has long been a passionate advocate for rural Islanders, and has actively supported rural access to healthcare, justice and transit.  She lives in Duvar with her husband Trent; her three children are Elora, Emily and Samuel.

After many years of working from the sidelines, she says, she has come to believe with Tommy Douglas that “The greatest way to defend democracy is to make it work.”.  She expresses the hope of making it work as the MLA for District 26.

Other nominations are permitted at the January 10th meeting.  It is open to all, although it is party members who are eligible to vote to select the candidate.

District 26 has a fresh name and new boundaries: it is Alberton-Bloomfield.  A map of the district can be found online at
