Members of the NDP Women’s Caucus are thanking Islands for their contributions after a very successful fundraising dinner.
The Hilda Ramsey Fundraising Dinner sold out a full five days before it took place on June 15th.
Islanders filled the Rodd Charlottetown to enjoy dinner, a silent auction, and listening to keynote speaker Sally Armstrong. Ms. Armstrong is an Amnesty International award winner, a member of the Order of Canada, journalist, teacher, author and human rights activist.
The Hilda Ramsey Fundraiser is a semi-annual event established by the NDP Women’s Caucus. Past speakers have included Michele Landsberg and Olivia Chow. The dinner is named after the very first woman to run for office on PEI, Hilda Ramsey. She ran for the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation in 1951.
Participation of Women spokesperson Lorraine Begley is thankful for the support of Islanders.
“We have many people to thank for this event, including and especially Sally Armstrong who captivated a room for almost an hour with tales of her experiences as an overseas journalist. But it could not have been done without the support of Islanders. We are thankful for the support the NDP PEI has received.”
“It took a wonderful group of people to make this event a success. I want to thank everyone involved, especially including the Women’s Caucus committee and the new NDP PEI executive. “
Proceeds from the Hilda Ramsey Fundraising dinner go to the Hilda Ramsey Fund, which is used to support women candidates running for the NDP by covering some campaign expenses.
